xAI is developing a custom system prompt for the standalone Grok application. Unlike its counterparts on the iOS app or the X website, the latest standalone Grok update for the web has introduced a hidden feature called Personalization, accessible through the Settings menu.

Within this Personalization feature, users can specify a custom prompt and create various styles by inputting different texts. The application also offers several predefined styles. Users have the flexibility to clone, edit, and save these styles.

Currently, these custom prompts can be selected from the Settings menu and applied to all conversations. However, there is no selector yet for this feature on the actual prompt bar; this functionality may be added in the future.

Notably, among the predefined styles is one called Socratic, likely referencing the earlier Socrates mode observed in an early version of the standalone Grok. This mode, which was not released to users, was available along with the fun mode, though it remained hidden.

Overall, this feature is reminiscent of custom styles on Claude and probably functions in a similar manner. Let’s see how it evolves.

xAI, founded by Elon Musk in 2023, is an AI-focused startup aiming to understand the true nature of the universe. Its flagship product, Grok, is a generative AI chatbot integrated with the X platform, offering users advanced conversational capabilities.
