New Google Flow build now points to Nano Banana 2.1

Google appears to be preparing another update to its Nano Banana image model. Earlier references inside the Google Flow web build pointed to “Nano Banana 2.5 Flash,” but that label has now been changed to simply “Nano Banana 2.1.”

The naming change may indicate that Nano Banana 2.1 is the intended production name. It is also a reason to temper expectations about the scale of the upgrade. A move from Nano Banana 2 to 2.1 would normally suggest a more iterative release, rather than the larger jump implied by “2.5 Flash.”

If released under this name, Nano Banana 2.1 could eventually appear across Gemini, Google AI Studio, Google Flow, and other Google products. That would fit Google’s current distribution strategy: Nano Banana 2 is officially Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, while Nano Banana 2 Lite has already been deployed across both developer and consumer surfaces.

There is no announced timeline for Nano Banana 2.1, and Google has not publicly detailed what would change compared with Nano Banana 2. For creators and developers, the main question will be whether the update delivers measurable gains in generation quality, editing, consistency, or latency, rather than simply serving as a refreshed model checkpoint.

The change also comes as attention shifts toward Google’s next Gemini Pro generation. Google has not announced a release date for Gemini 4 Pro, though we still expect the next Pro-tier model to arrive before December.
