Mitra is expanding its personal AI assistant beyond phone calls by introducing new capabilities that let the agent participate more directly in conversations. These include taking over chats and a feature called Mitra Link.

The chat capability lets Mitra step into a conversation and communicate on the user’s behalf, extending the model it already applies to phone calls. Instead of merely suggesting a response, Mitra can handle the conversation itself while retaining the context it has learned about the user and their preferences.

Mitra Link extends this approach through a link-based format for bringing Mitra into conversations and connecting other people with the assistant. Together, these features point toward Mitra becoming a persistent communication layer that can represent users across different forms of communication, rather than remaining primarily an AI phone agent.

This direction fits Mitra’s broader product strategy. The assistant already makes and answers calls from a user’s number, while its recently relaunched platform can also send texts and emails, communicate through Slack, book appointments, work with documents and spreadsheets, and complete web tasks. Users can intervene when needed or allow Mitra to continue independently.

The new chat features represent a major extension of Mitra’s core concept: an AI that does not merely help users compose messages, but can communicate with other people and carry conversations forward on their behalf.
