Google appears to be building a "Shopping Cart" feature directly into the Gemini app, spotted as a new option inside the settings menu of a recent build. The discovery comes alongside a broader settings redesign that relocates several items previously housed in the sidebar, including Gems and Scheduled Actions, into a unified settings page. The Shopping Cart entry suggests Google is preparing to let users browse, select, and purchase products without leaving Gemini, turning the assistant into a self-contained commerce surface.
This would be a natural progression of the company's existing agentic shopping push, which already allows checkout from retailers like Target, Gap, Etsy, and Wayfair through its Universal Commerce Protocol announced at NRF in January 2026. A dedicated cart inside Gemini would give that checkout flow a persistent home, making multi-item purchases and comparison shopping more practical for everyday users.
The timing is notable given that Google just yesterday began rolling out Skills for Gemini in Chrome, reusable one-click prompt workflows that can run across tabs and pages. Combined with previously spotted developments, such as an Agent tab with Skills, the pieces suggest Google may be working to unify its Gemini-in-Chrome experience with the main Gemini UI.
If the Chrome-based Skills, auto-browse capabilities, and agentic shopping features converge into a single coherent interface, Gemini in Chrome could effectively function as a desktop-class AI application for Google, one that handles browsing, automation, and commerce in one place. That would put it in direct competition not just with ChatGPT and Copilot on the shopping front, but also with emerging AI browsers like OpenAI's Atlas and Perplexity's Comet on the agentic browsing side.
All of these features remain unreleased and in development, and the settings revamp itself has not been publicly announced. With Google I/O scheduled for May 19–20, it is reasonable to expect many of these threads, shopping, Skills, and the broader agentic Chrome integration to be formally unveiled there.
