Google is beginning to roll out the new Super Gems feature within Gemini, which integrates Opal apps directly inside the Gems Manager. The updated Gems Manager now presents two sections: the upper portion is focused on gems produced by Google Labs, and the lower section remains the familiar Gem Manager for personal or pre-built custom Gems.

The Labs area showcases pre-built gems too, essentially the same Opal workflows previously seen in the standalone Opal experiment. Users who had existing Opal workflows will now find them listed under “My Gems from Labs,” making migration seamless.

Gemini

When starting a new gem, users are brought into a Workflow Builder where they can define their desired experience. The system then auto-generates the workflow steps, system prompts, and even visual elements, all accessible for immediate testing via a preview. This preview features both a standard input and voice dictation, and the workflow can be launched full screen or published publicly with a shareable link, improving on the previous sharing process that relied on Google Drive permissions. For users needing more control, an advanced option links directly to the Opal Builder, offering detailed workflow editing.

Gemini

Currently, this release appears limited to the US and a subset of users, reflecting Opal’s restricted regional availability. The staged rollout matches Google’s recent approach with other Labs integrations, such as the recent NotebookLM connection within Gemini. These moves underscore Google’s current strategy: deepen feature integration and promote advanced AI workflows directly in Gemini, leveraging both in-house and experimental tools.

Gemini

By consolidating Opal capabilities and enabling easy public sharing, Gemini positions itself as a central platform for both end users and power users building custom AI tools. This step signals Google’s ongoing push to sustain user growth following the launch of Gemini 3 Pro and suggests that more Labs features could arrive in Gemini as part of a broader expansion plan.
