The voice mode in the Claude app by Anthropic looks close to release, with the feature now functional under a hidden flag. Previously inactive, it started working over the weekend, allowing users to try real voice conversations with Claude for the first time.
There are four voice options available—two male and two female. The voice mode already supports web search, and when search is triggered, it shows a list of sources along with the response. Claude also breaks down its answers into bullet points, making them easier to follow on-screen. File uploads are supported too, meaning you can add images or PDFs and then talk to Claude about them using voice.

It comes with push-to-talk and scrollable text views. It will be quite a big upgrade for the Claude mobile app!

Responses appear in a scrollable, paginated format, with dot indicators showing your position in the conversation. You can swipe back and forth to revisit earlier parts of the chat.
One thing to note is that Claude’s voice mode doesn’t support interruptions. It works more like a push-to-talk system: you speak, then tap a send button for Claude to respond. This manual flow gives you control over when your message is sent but doesn’t allow for a fully natural back-and-forth. Despite this, it handles voice input reliably and feels more stable than many other voice assistants, especially in dealing with pauses or mid-sentence changes.
The need to hold your device during use reinforces the push-to-talk design, giving you a clear sense of when you’re speaking and when Claude is responding. With the recent global rollout of web search on mobile, this upcoming voice mode adds even more depth to Claude’s app, and it’s shaping up to be a useful addition once it officially launches.
