xAI’s team continues refining the upcoming “Tasks” feature in Grok, and their latest iteration introduces a left-hand sidebar that now houses the dedicated Tasks button. This adjustment suggests a move toward making task creation more prominent and accessible in the interface. Alongside the relocation, users now have granular control over how they receive task notifications, with options to enable either in-app, email, or both. The scheduling UI has also been reworked to simplify the selection of execution times, indicating that xAI is tuning this feature for broader usability.

The Tasks function is designed to allow users to schedule prompts or instructions for the model to execute at a later time, potentially a step toward agent-style workflows. The recent UI additions reflect a maturing phase of development where the focus is shifting from core logic to ease of access and control. If adopted widely, this could set the groundwork for more autonomous use cases inside Grok, particularly for power users and business accounts managing routine actions.
Although xAI isn’t alone in building such capabilities, it's notable that they are now catching up to what OpenAI has already released in ChatGPT. Meanwhile, Google’s Gemini team has reportedly been working on its own task-scheduling system for over ten months without a public rollout. Perplexity has this feature in the works too. Lesser-known players like Convergence have also developed similar scheduling tools. The convergence of these features across platforms signals growing demand for persistent, time-triggered agent workflows that allow users to automate AI execution without live interaction. How far xAI takes this, whether toward automation or reminders, remains to be seen.
