Microsoft recently made its Think Deeper feature available to free users, though no official announcement has been made. Some users noticed this change on the web, but the feature appears highly restricted, allowing only three messages per day for free accounts. Previously, Think Deeper had been exclusive to Pro users, where it granted access to Copilot’s reasoning capabilities, originally powered by the OpenAI o1-preview model.

It’s unclear which model underpins the free version of Think Deeper, but many suspect it might be o1-mini. With OpenAI expected to release o3-mini by the end of the month, there is speculation that o3-mini could also come to Copilot, as happened with GPT-4 last year. In that case, Copilot users gained access to GPT-4 before standard GPT users. Some also believe that an official announcement about Think Deeper’s free capabilities might coincide with the o3-mini’s release.
big news: the free tier of chatgpt is going to get o3-mini!

(and the plus tier will get tons of o3-mini usage)
However, all of this remains speculation. No official details have been confirmed yet.
About Copilot
Microsoft has been actively integrating AI capabilities into its ecosystem under the Copilot branding. The Think Deeper feature was initially introduced in October 2024 as part of Copilot Labs for Pro users in select regions. Copilot Labs serves as a testing ground for features like Think Deeper and Copilot Vision before broader deployment. The company's focus on AI-driven productivity tools aligns with its broader strategy to integrate advanced AI into daily workflows.
