Perplexity is preparing to introduce a research mode called "Deep Research", which is expected to go beyond the current "Research" feature. This new mode will likely include a model selector, offering access to advanced models such as Claude 4 Opus and Claude 4 Opus Thinking. The aim is to broaden the range of resources searched and provide more robust, multi-step reasoning, positioning Perplexity to compete directly with similar tools from ChatGPT and Gemini, both of which have expanded their own research capabilities. The Deep Research feature is expected to distinguish itself by performing iterative searches, analyzing hundreds of sources, and delivering comprehensive reports in just a few minutes, notably faster than some competitors.

In addition to research upgrades, Perplexity is developing memory and personalisation features. Users will soon have two new toggles in settings:

  1. One to let Perplexity use past searches for answering questions.
  2. Another to allow saving and using memories for responses.

These features will not function in incognito mode, and users will have the ability to delete saved memories as needed. This approach addresses ongoing privacy concerns and gives users more control over how their data is used, while also enabling a more tailored search experience.

These changes reflect Perplexity’s broader strategy to regain a leading position in the AI-powered research space, responding to both user feedback and competitive developments. The company is focused on making research tools faster and more accurate, while also ensuring users have clear control over personalization and privacy. No specific release dates have been confirmed, but the direction is clear: Perplexity aims to deliver deeper, more flexible research capabilities and greater user agency in how information is managed.
