Google is moving forward with an upgrade to NotebookLM, aiming to provide AI-suggested report formats beyond the standard Study Guide, FAQ, and Briefing Doc options. These new formats will be contextually suggested by Gemini, analyzing the sources users add to each notebook. This means that, as users bring in various types of content, Gemini will be able to propose report structures that are more aligned with the specifics of that data, broadening the ways in which NotebookLM can be used for both academic and professional purposes.

This change comes as part of a larger redesign of the customization UI in Studio, where all customization options will soon be presented in a pop-up screen, making it easier to select and fine-tune features. The new UI approach is not limited to report formats—it’s also being applied to Flashcards and Audio Overviews, which are expected to arrive soon. With these updates, Google seems focused on giving users a more flexible and tailored way to generate and use their learning artifacts, though full manual customization of report templates is not yet available.

These updates are part of Google's broader strategy to make NotebookLM a more adaptive and user-driven platform, leveraging Gemini’s AI capabilities. This direction targets students, researchers, and professionals who need tools that fit different workflows and information structures.
