Perplexity has introduced a new feature called Privacy Snapshot for Comet, which places a live privacy widget on the browser’s homepage and consolidates all Assistant controls into a single, more intuitive panel. This allows users to block tasks on specific sites, toggle the Assistant’s web actions off, and view a straightforward breakdown of how data is utilized. Ad and tracker blocking are enabled by default. Additionally, Safe Browsing, a device-local password manager, and regular security updates continue to be standard features. Personal queries identified as sensitive are automatically deleted after 30 days, with an option for users to manually delete accounts and uploads.

This feature is designed for anyone using Comet who desires immediate visibility and control without navigating through complex menus. It is available now through the latest Comet update. The widget allows users to access settings directly from the start page, enabling them to adjust access to history, open-tab context, and site permissions with just a few clicks. Comet employs a hybrid compute model to retain credentials and similar data on the device while sending minimal context to servers when the Assistant performs a task.

How Comet handles your data
One of the innovative aspects of Comet is the hybrid model of compute between your device and Perplexity servers. For an AI assistant to be truly personal, it’s important to keep as much data as possible locally on your device, and not on Perplexity servers.
Your account credentials, such as passwords and credit card information, are also stored locally on your device.
Comet is currently available on desktop for macOS and Windows, with a mobile version in development. The browser is free to use, with Pro and Max tiers offering higher quotas and model options; Comet Plus remains an add-on for premium content.

Early users have advocated for stricter controls around agentic browsing and prompt-injection risks. Privacy Snapshot addresses these concerns by centralizing controls and enhancing transparency, compared to earlier versions where settings were dispersed.
Perplexity is positioning Comet as an AI-native browser capable of acting on pages, summarizing content, and automating routine web tasks. This update underscores a commitment to trust and administrative clarity as the company expands its global reach.
