OpenAI has released a new version of ChatGPT for macOS, introducing expanded support for applications within the previously launched Work With Apps feature. Among the recent additions are several code editor apps, including Cursor and Android Studio. Cursor, being based on VS Code, also supports extensions that activate advanced features. For instance, users can select a specific piece of code, and ChatGPT will recognize the selection to provide contextual assistance or answer questions.
In addition to these improvements, OpenAI is developing a few hidden features that are not yet available. One such feature involves the "thinking process" of models like China Thought's O1 Preview. Similar to the web experiments, this will open a pop-up displaying a summary of the model's reasoning process, rather than presenting it as a list, as is currently the case.
Another area of focus is the development of connectors. On the web platform, users can already connect ChatGPT to services like Google Drive or OneDrive. However, this functionality has not yet been introduced to the desktop app. Moreover, additional connectors are being developed, including integrations with Slack and Jira, and there are hints of future possibilities, such as connecting to the Snowflake database. The form and timeline for these new connectors remain unclear.
These updates and ongoing developments highlight OpenAI's efforts to make ChatGPT more versatile and deeply integrated across various workflows.
