Anthropic appears to be preparing Claude Mythos 5.5 for an upcoming release after a reference to the new version was spotted on its official Mythos webpage. The change appears recent and currently covers only the version number, with no new specifications or announcement. This could point to a launch as early as next week.

Meanwhile, multiple reports suggest Anthropic has been A/B testing updated Claude Fable 5.5 checkpoints with selected users. Early impressions describe state-of-the-art performance, with some claims suggesting the model even outperforms Google’s unreleased Gemini 4 Carbon. However, these comparisons remain anecdotal, with no public benchmarks available to support them.

Availability could be a major limitation. Anthropic previously restricted Mythos 5.1 to verified cybersecurity and life sciences researchers, while Fable 5.1 offered the same underlying model with additional safeguards for general use. If the company follows a similar strategy, Mythos 5.5 may initially remain exclusive to selected cyber defenders.

Earlier Mythos announcements also triggered sell-offs among cybersecurity stocks as investors questioned the future of traditional security software. The market could react differently this time, however. Recent cyberattacks and vulnerability disclosures demonstrate continued demand for cybersecurity solutions. At the same time, restricting advanced defensive capabilities to selected organizations raises questions about how the broader public can benefit from these advances.

Another question is whether Claude Fable 5.5 will arrive alongside Mythos 5.5. Anthropic previously released both model variants together, making another simultaneous launch plausible. Rumors about Fable 5.5 testing have also circulated for weeks, although no release date has been confirmed.

The timing is particularly interesting given Anthropic’s upcoming IPO. The company filed for a Nasdaq listing under the ticker ANT on October 26, and a major model release ahead of its market debut could attract considerable investor attention. Whether both models arrive next week, and who gets access first, remains to be seen.
