Perplexity is quietly progressing toward a much-anticipated automation layer by developing a feature internally labeled “Scheduled Tasks.” Although not yet active in the user interface, its presence in the codebase confirms that timed routines are being prepped for release. The concept echoes ChatGPT’s own scheduled actions, where users can request recurring summaries or updates like daily news digests. However, a key distinction for Perplexity could be in the email delivery experience, ChatGPT currently limits emails to simple links, while many hope Perplexity's implementation will include the actual content.
Tasks scheduling is coming super soon. All browsers but will work best on Comet. https://t.co/MRsPlgmues pic.twitter.com/sFZaV9XMkL

This feature appears to be browser-agnostic, working through the standard Perplexity web client, but it’s expected to be more effective on their Comet browser. Comet’s ability to interact more deeply with websites, beyond just executing searches, opens new potential for automating actions across platforms like LinkedIn or X. For instance, routine LinkedIn job searches followed by automatic applications using saved CVs (especially for Easy Apply listings) could become hands-free. Similarly, routine social tasks like messaging, liking posts, or even posting through services like Ghost can potentially be executed without user input, provided the right prompts are in place.

Comet, built to incorporate Perplexity’s AI engine at every interaction layer, already drew early feedback asking for scheduled task execution, signaling strong user demand. While file uploads remain a limitation, many real-world scenarios—particularly those involving cloud-based workflows—don’t require local file interaction. This positions Comet as a more capable browser-agent hybrid compared to tools like Manos or traditional operators, which are typically bound by narrower scopes or manual setups.
For users aiming to automate daily routines or content publishing flows, especially on platforms like Ghost, this development could dramatically streamline workflows. The implications for those who already experiment with prompt chaining and automation inside Comet are promising, making Perplexity's Scheduled Tasks feature one to closely watch.
