Copilot 3D has surfaced as a new experimental project within Microsoft’s AI ecosystem, aimed at converting flat images into 3D models. The current interface presents two sections, “Explore Ideas” and “My Creations”, with placeholder galleries showing basic object manipulation, such as rotating a 3D ship model using the mouse. Although the core functionality is not yet fully active, the “Create” button doesn’t produce results; the feature promises a workflow where users can upload an image and receive a 3D-rendered version in return.

The tagline, “3D for everyone from imagination to creation,” suggests an ambition to make this type of modelling accessible to non-experts. It aligns with other creative-focused tools seen in the Copilot ecosystem, but this one is notably different from anything currently offered by major AI labs.

Earlier developments under the “Portrait” label also hinted at voice-based interactions with stylized characters, raising questions about whether Microsoft is building toward a system that merges 3D assets with avatar-based communication. While this idea remains speculative, the presence of a functioning 3D viewer and gallery structure indicates steady progress on at least the modeling side. For now, Copilot 3D remains an early-stage prototype, but its focus on visual creativity could carve out a distinctive niche for Microsoft’s AI toolkit.
