Meta's next-generation AI models are further along than public reporting might suggest. Through hands-on testing of the Meta AI platform, it was confirmed that several Avocado model variants are already producing outputs distinct from those of the Llama 4 family currently powering the assistant. Three variants were identified in active testing: an Avocado Mango variant, an Avocado 9B (a 9-billion-parameter version), and an internal build referred to as Avocado TH (Think Hard), which appears to be a reasoning Avocado version.

The Avocado Mango variant demonstrated respectable multimodal capabilities, generating a decent-quality SVG of a pelican riding a bike. Even the smaller 9B model produced surprisingly competent outputs, suggesting that if Meta upgrades its consumer tools from Llama 4 to Avocado, the improvement would be immediately noticeable.

Meta has delayed the Avocado launch from March to at least May 2026 after internal benchmarks showed it falling short of frontier competitors, and leadership has reportedly even discussed temporarily licensing Google's Gemini.

Beyond Avocado, a previously unreported model family, Paricado, was discovered in the platform's model selector. Paricado appears to exist in three configurations:

  1. Text-only conversational model
  2. Reasoning variant
  3. Multimodal - with Image/video understanding

None of these are accessible yet, and it remains unclear whether Paricado is a successor to Avocado, a lighter-weight alternative, or an entirely separate product line. This codename has not appeared in any prior reporting, making it the first public mention of a new model effort at Meta beyond the known Avocado, Mango, and Watermelon projects.

Two additional modes were also found in the selector: a Document Agent and a Health Agent, a direction that aligns with the broader industry push; OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google have all launched healthcare-focused AI tools in recent months. These modes likely represent internal experiments that could surface in the consumer product under different UI treatments.

Taken together, the findings paint a picture of Meta testing far more in the background than its public delays would suggest.
