Google appears to be extending Gemini Canvas with a bridge to Firebase Studio. A new export button is being tested that would let users take a Canvas prototype and spin it into a Firebase Studio project. The flow is straightforward: build an idea in Canvas, click export, and Firebase Studio creates a new project with the Canvas file already imported. This moves a sketch into a production-ready environment, where developers can add hosting, external services, and business logic. The target group here is clearly web coders who start with lightweight mockups but want a direct path toward scalable apps.
This aligns with Google’s broader push to interconnect its AI-driven creative tools with its established developer platforms. Firebase Studio acts as the natural next step for anyone using Gemini as a prototyping surface. By lowering the hand-off cost, Google is trying to keep early-stage builders inside its ecosystem from idea to deployment.

Another change in testing is the relocation of the model selector UI into the prompt bar. This follows a broader trend seen across major AI labs where model selection sits closer to the typing field. The shift reduces cursor movement and keeps controls aligned with the main workflow, making quick switches more natural.
Both features are still in development, with no timeline surfaced yet. If released, they would strengthen Gemini’s position as both a creative and technical tool, making the path from drafting to real projects less fragmented.
