GitHub has announced the launch of its MCP Registry, designed to centralize the discovery of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for developers building with GitHub Copilot, AI agents, and other MCP-compatible tools. The registry is immediately available to the public and supports a wide range of users, from individual developers to large organizations integrating agentic workflows into their systems. The registry is accessible directly through GitHub and integrates with platforms such as Visual Studio Code for seamless, one-click installation of MCP servers.

The MCP Registry provides a curated directory of MCP servers, with listings sorted by GitHub stars and community activity, ensuring users can quickly identify active, well-supported options. Each server is linked to its GitHub repository, offering transparency into its functionality and setup instructions. Key technical capabilities include compatibility with GitHub Copilot, agentic AI tools, and the ability to connect with major services such as Figma, Postman, Terraform, and Dynatrace. Servers can be published through the OSS MCP Community Registry, automatically syncing with GitHub’s MCP Registry to reduce duplication and provide transparent metadata and verification.

GitHub, a leading platform for code collaboration, is driving this project in partnership with open source contributors, Anthropic, and the MCP Steering Committee. By launching the MCP Registry, GitHub aims to foster a more open, secure, and interoperable AI development ecosystem, addressing previous fragmentation and security challenges. Early reactions from partners highlight the registry’s role in accelerating development workflows and bridging gaps between design, code, and infrastructure management. The initiative underscores GitHub’s ongoing commitment to open standards and collaborative development in the AI space.
