On May 21, 2025, Mistral AI, in collaboration with All Hands AI, introduced Devstral, a 24-billion-parameter open-source large language model tailored for software engineering tasks. Released under the Apache 2.0 license, Devstral is accessible for both commercial and non-commercial use. It is available for download on platforms like Hugging Face, Ollama, Kaggle, and LM Studio, and can also be accessed via Mistral’s API under the name ‘devstral-small-2505’ at a rate of $0.1 per million input tokens and $0.3 per million output tokens.
In collaboration with @allhands_ai, you can run Devstral with OpenHandas. Check out the docs and video tutorial:

Devstral is designed to address real-world software development challenges by integrating with agentic frameworks such as OpenHands and SWE-Agent. It has achieved a score of 46.8% on the SWE-Bench Verified benchmark, surpassing other open-source models like Deepseek-V3-0324 and Qwen3 232B-A22B, and outperforming proprietary models such as GPT-4.1 Mini by over 20% in specific evaluations. The model supports a context window of up to 128,000 tokens and is optimized for local deployment, capable of running on hardware like a single RTX 4090 GPU or a Mac with 32GB RAM.
Founded in April 2023 by Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample, and Timothée Lacroix, Mistral AI is a Paris-based startup specializing in open-weight large language models. The company has rapidly expanded its AI offerings, including models like Mistral Small 3.1 and Codestral, and has secured substantial funding to support its growth. Mistral AI emphasizes openness and innovation, positioning itself as an alternative to proprietary AI systems.
