OpenAI has introduced two new features for ChatGPT users in the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. These updates aim to enhance personalization and interaction capabilities on both web and mobile platforms.

The first feature is an updated Custom Instructions functionality. This allows users to personalize how ChatGPT responds by specifying preferences such as tone, style, or desired traits (e.g., formal, concise). Users can access this feature via the settings menu on the ChatGPT website or the Windows desktop app. The rollout began on January 17, 2025, and is now available in the specified regions. This feature is particularly useful for tailoring responses in professional or creative contexts, as it eliminates the need to repeatedly provide preferences during conversations. Users can set these instructions under "Personalization" in settings and enable them for new chats.

The second update involves video and screensharing capabilities integrated into the Advanced Voice mode of the ChatGPT mobile app. This feature enables users to engage in live video conversations or share their screens with ChatGPT for real-time feedback and collaboration. It is accessible through the latest versions of the iOS and Android apps. Users can activate these functionalities by selecting the camera or screen-sharing options during voice interactions. This multimodal capability supports tasks like collaborative design or troubleshooting by providing visual context alongside voice communication. The rollout for this feature began on January 30, 2025.
