The new features include "Scenes," which allow users to engage with interactive, pre-populated storylines alongside their favorite characters. Currently accessible on the mobile app, tools for creators to build and publish their own scenes are expected later this summer. "AvatarFX" enables the transformation of static images into animated videos where characters can sing, speak, or perform actions, utilizing image-to-video technology. This feature is live on the web and will soon be available on mobile devices.

A redesigned profile interface offers creators enhanced organization and customization options, facilitating a more effective showcase of their characters and content. "Streams" provide users the ability to generate dynamic interactions between any two characters by selecting a topic and initiating a conversation, with the feature set to roll out this week on both web and mobile platforms.

For c.ai+ subscribers, "Imagine Animated Chats" allows the animation of character interactions, which can be shared within the Character.AI feed or on external platforms. Additionally, a forthcoming "Community Feed" will serve as a centralized hub for discovering new characters, scenes, streams, and creator content, enhancing user engagement and content visibility.

Character.AI, established in November 2021 by former Google engineers Noam Shazeer and Daniel de Freitas, has evolved from a platform focused on one-on-one text chats to a multifaceted environment supporting various forms of interactive media. The company, headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Silicon Valley, Seattle, and New York, continues to develop features that cater to a growing community of creators and users seeking diverse storytelling experiences.
