Microsoft has unveiled Copilot Cowork, a new feature designed to move beyond the conversational capabilities of Copilot by enabling real task execution across Microsoft 365. Built for users who need to delegate and automate complex workflows, Copilot Cowork connects deeply with Outlook, Teams, Excel, and other Microsoft 365 applications. The feature is powered by Work IQ, allowing it to understand and act on user intent by referencing emails, meetings, documents, and organizational data. Copilot Cowork is currently available in a limited Research Preview to select customers, with a broader rollout scheduled through the Frontier program in late March 2026.

Targeted at enterprise and business professionals, Copilot Cowork focuses on automating meeting management, research, and cross-functional project coordination. It leverages integration with Anthropic’s Claude Cowork technology, offering multi-model AI capabilities that select the most suitable model for a given task. Security remains a core aspect, with all actions governed by Microsoft 365’s compliance and audit frameworks, ensuring tasks run securely within a sandboxed cloud environment.
Microsoft, a leading provider of enterprise software and cloud services, continues to expand its AI-driven productivity suite. The integration of third-party AI models, such as Claude Cowork, highlights Microsoft’s commitment to delivering flexible automation tools while maintaining user control and compliance. Early feedback from enterprise testers has noted Copilot Cowork’s potential to save time on routine planning and research, distinguishing itself from previous Copilot features by focusing on execution rather than just content creation.
