A new “Super Gem” banner was spotted in the Gems section of Gemini on the web, carrying the tagline: Build and share powerful AI mini-apps and custom workflows to automate your daily tasks. The presence of this banner, directly referencing Opal, a Google Labs experiment enabling agent-powered workflow creation, indicates that Google may be preparing to bring Opal’s agent-based automation capabilities into Gemini. Opal currently operates as a standalone tool where users can design, publish, and share complex AI-driven automations, while Gemini for Business already features its own version of a workflow builder for enterprise environments.

If Opal’s functionality becomes a native part of Gemini, users could gain direct access to a much broader set of automation tools without switching platforms, streamlining their productivity. However, it’s still possible the banner serves as an advertisement, redirecting users to Opal’s separate environment, given that Opal is already a fully-featured product. For now, the integration status is unclear.

This development arrives as Google introduces additional workflow automation solutions such as Workspace Studio for enterprise clients, which offers yet another builder for organizing business processes. As a result, Google now has three different workflow and automation tools, Gemini for Business, Opal in Labs, and Workspace Studio, each evolving in parallel, leading to some uncertainty about how these solutions might eventually converge. The outcome could reshape Gemini’s position as a hub for custom AI-powered workflows if deeper integration does occur.
