One of the most recent public betas (version 48.0.2310.131725 to be exact) released for Opera browser on Android makes the app the first major mobile browser with a built-in crypto wallet support. This is a big move towards bringing Web 3.0 to life in the form of a fully decentralized Internet that many are dreaming of.
The first thing we must note here is what does a decentralized app (Dapp, dApp or DApp) mean. Decentralized applications are applications that run on a P2P (peer-to-peer) network of devices rather than on a single device. They are software programs, designed to exist on the Internet in a way that is not controlled by any single entity. Think of how torrents work. The variant of DApps favored by Opera is the one based on the Etherium blockchain protocol due to its popularity all over the Net.
Not only you can run decentralized applications, but you can also send money from a wallet to wallet and make online payments with cryptocurrencies while using Opera. If you choose to pay with a cryptocurrency from your Android device with the aforementioned browser, you have to keep in mind that, as of now, the number of Coinbase Commerce-enabled merchants that support this type of payments is limited. But if supported by an app/site, users will be presented with a payment request dialog, asking for your signature. The payment will then be signed and directly transmitted.
Opera has made a collection of supported blockchain-powered apps, which you can access by pressing the 'O' button, then tapping on Crypto wallet and selecting the DApp explorer fab button at the bottom right. From the same page you can also set-up your profile, send or receive money and manage your wallet settings.
By far these are some very bold steps taken by Opera to broaden the adoption of DApps, thus getting us one step closer to the "New Internet". They believe that this is the future and we sure think the same.
