In the beginning, Instagram was a platform focused primarily on sharing images and videos, but, to my surprise, in the past couple of years it evolved a lot and became a messaging app too, sort of. After multiple updates so far, everything that is necessary for a user has been crammed in one place so you get the best of both worlds, even video calling if you need it. As they continue to borrow features from other messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Telegram, the latest addition this time are voice notes.
Introducing Voice Messaging
In any message thread, tap and hold the microphone icon to start recording a voice message. Release your finger to send.
After you open a chat thread in Instagram Direct, you will notice the new microphone icon that has been added inside the text entry box located at the bottom of the screen, next to the button used to attach images. To start recording a voice message, tap and hold on the microphone button and release it when you are done. You can also swipe up to lock the recording so it keeps working, allowing you to lift up your finger from the screen and do not interrupt the process. Instead, by swiping right, you can dismiss the audio message. If it happens that you send a voice message unintentionally, you can easily delete it. Just long-press on it and then select the Unsend Message option from the menu.
Voice messages on Instagram are rolling out for all users, so make sure to keep your apps up-to-date to be the first to get all of the latest and greatest features and whatnot.
