Yup, Evernote is just another app for Android to get a Dark Mode (called "Dark Theme" this time), which many of us truly love, and even Google admitted that dark themes can improve battery life with up to 60%. This time around this is just a different color scheme implementation, with no additional design tweaks. The background of the main page has a darker tone of gray, while other pages and pop-up menus opt in for a lighter shade of gray, thus making it easier to tell things apart. Just enter the left side panel to toggle this feature on.
- You asked for a dark mode in Evernote, and it’s finally here! Welcome to the dark side — lightsabers not included.
- Various tiny fixes to stop crashes and catch bugs.
This beta release fixes numerous issues where icons for actions in the settings and the side panel were replaced by random letters. There is still one left though - instead of showing an icon inside the FAB button in notes, there is the letter "e". Something else that also caught my eye is the page for upgrading to the Premium plan is indeed still white while the Dark Theme is on, and the status bar icons are indeed invisible (the background and the icons are both white).
All of the new things we dug into are available in Evernote version 8.6_beta2, released on November 12, 2018. Be sure to join its beta program to be on the bleeding edge when it comes to having the newest features "decades" earlier than others at the cost of unforeseen bugs, which may eventually occur.
