WhatsApp Messenger beta for Android Community Report 📲 Huawei P8, Android 6.0

First introduced by Snapchat in October 2013, Stories got widely implemented across all social media platforms. WhatsApp also joined the party in February 2017, but with a rather different name for the same feature, while every other competitor uses the 'Stories' moniker. This resulted in Statuses not being as popular, so it faded away.

These aside, we are going to see what WhatsApp Statuses offer in terms of functionality, which is quite limited.

Below are the different options available for editing photo and video Statuses.

Pictures

  • Filters, filters, and filters! Yeah, after you take a picture, or select one, you get access to the five filters by just swiping up.
  • Crop and rotate images
  • Stickers - Choose from a plethora of stickers (with live clock and location info) and large emojis.
  • Overlaying text
  • Drawings

Videos

  • Video/GIF - Switch between video and GIF formats.
  • Cutting or trimming videos
  • Stickers
  • Overlaying text
  • Drawings

To summarize, WhatsApp Statuses are a torn down version of Stories, so maybe this is why they aren't as compelling as other alternatives. The basic ideas are there and they disappear after 24 hours, but there is nothing unique about them. Are you using Statuses and if so, please, let us know.

  • WhatsApp Messenger is a FREE messaging app available for Android and other smartphones
