I found a rare bug which I would like to report to Instagram dev. For those who interested - please check how to fill a proper bug report 📲
Environment:
Google Pixel XL2, Android 8.1, Fast Wi-Fi network.
Application:
Instagram Alpha 56.0.0.0.29
Steps to reproduce:
- Open stories > take a picture
- Tap on the stickers button > select GIF option
- Type "developers" in the search box
Actual result:
App crashes with
FATAL EXCEPTION: main
AndroidRuntime: java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke interface method 'java.util.Iterator java.util.List.iterator()' on a null object reference
Looks like the app receives a rare (unique) response from the gif provider which was not handled properly by the app.
Expected result:
The list of GIFs for "developers" query is shown. The app should have a default fallback in the API handler for such cases.
Please see screenshots and video attached.
Did anybody find any other search queries which crashed the app?
