A new beta update for the fancy Smart Launcher 5 is now available on Google Play for all registered testers. This release, version 5.2 build 031 to be precise, appears to add in a dark theme option which comes together with a small number of nice customizations. Please, take a look at the release notes and stay tuned for our detailed feature walkthrough afterward.
- Added "AMOLED Black", an option to make the dark mode even darker.
- You can now select 4 different options to automatically enable the Dark mode Always on / Follow system settings / During night time / On dark wallpapers
- Many other improvements related to dark mode.
Dark mode has been the one feature that everyone is working on supporting due to Google's recent admission that it brings pretty huge battery life gains, finally! Smart Launcher 5 has also jumped on that same bandwagon, but with an even better version of dark mode in tow - AMOLED black mode. As you can guess from the title of this report, you can choose between two variants of how the background colors to be set throughout the app. To enable it and do further personalizations, go into the settings of the app - Global appearance - Dark mode. There are a couple of selections about when it should go on, like according to your system settings, during the night, etc.
I am certainly glad that there are more and more app developers who are striking to support dark mode in their apps. It, without any doubt, has its advantages, like the great battery savings and the lesser strain on your eyes. Looks prettier to me too.

Smart Launcher 5 beta - in-app search in Smart Search live in the US, homescreen page reordering to be released soon
Smart Launcher is a launcher application for Android with a different interface, giving you more of a unique user experience, opposite to the old school but flashy designs, or any other feature-packed jams.
The team behind Smart Launcher has partnered with Branch - a company that provides a mobile linking platform with reasonable solutions for unifying user experience and measurement across different devices, platforms, and channels. As a by-product of this collaboration, in-app search in Smart Search has been born. What this means is that you are able to search inside of your favorite apps as well as inside of other popular apps that are not installed on your phone, right from your home screen. For example, you can search for a song that you want to listen to or find the best nearby restaurants. And of course, there will be more to come after.
The new page system is not the only cool things arriving in Smart Launcher soon. There is another very interesting feature that we will be available all the SL beta testers in just a few days.
In-app content search! Thanks to a new partnership with Branch, we will soon introduce in-app search in our Smart Search.
Search inside of your favorite apps as well as inside of popular apps that are not yet on your phone. For example, search for a song you want to listen to or find the best nearby restaurants. And this is just the beginning! :)
The Branch team is actively working on their technology. They are a very reactive team and we will work in strict contact to continuously improve this integration. As always, your feedback will be fundamental in this process.
To conclude, some details about the distribution. The new search capabilities will be free for everyone and available to the beta testers in some days. Unfortunately, at least initially the feature will be available only to users in the USA.
Another feature that has actually been teased on their Google+ community is the introduction of a system, which will allow you to move each page to a different position. I would like to share with you that this has been available in many other launchers for a decade, so this is rather a "better late than never" approach. At least this is what it reminds me of.
The other two features that did stand out to me, introduced in the last few updates, are the new animations for launching apps (Preferences - Global settings - App animation) and the automatic Ambient theme, which updates itself when live wallpapers get changed (requires Android 8.1 and above).
As a verdict, I would say that the best of the bunch is the new upgraded version of Smart Search in Smart Launcher 5. It is very promising, though, to our international readers - it will come shortly to you because initially, it is available only to beta users in the USA.
Note: Smart Launcher 5 is on flash sale at nearly half the price, so if you are a fan, go and grab it before the sale ends.
