Discord adds font scaling back, and brings profile disabling and deleting options to the Android app (v8.9.1 beta)
The messaging app for gamers, Discord, is now receiving a new beta update to version 8.9.1 through the Google Play Store. The latest release is indeed snappier, prettier and more feature-packed than ever. Please, have a look at the changelog for this beta first and don't go anywhere because I have a word or two more.
- Font Scaling is back and better than ever! a A (Bigger)A (Biggest)A
- If you turn off animated emoji, the emoji picker won't animate them anymore (for you lower-end phone folks)
- Updating language now is buttery smooth
- You can delete and disable your account from within the app now, but why???
- App should be a little leaner due to a low-carb diet
- Bug fixes on Account screens and some performance improvements
Font scaling & animated emojis
Apparently, Discord has brought back a very handy-dandy setting which allows users to set a custom in-app font size. The option can be found in the 'Text & Images' section inside the settings where is also another new toggle that controls whether emojis should be animated or not.
More account preferences
Instead of having to reside to the desktop app or the web version to disable or delete a profile, the Discord Android app is here to save the day. It lets you tinker with those buttons and to do so you will have to head into the 'My account' page, again in the settings.
Generally speaking, every millisecond spent while waiting matters. Surely enough, waiting times have been cut down a tiny bit and in addition to that, changing the app's language happens in an instant with a smooth transition animation as an eye-candy. The release notes also do mention a size reduction, so more space for your other stuff is there.
Turns out that version 8.9.1 beta is a great feature update. If you haven't already, you can sign up for testing from the links below and get to try out new app experiences in advance. One more thing - follow TestingCatalog's social media accounts for more update insights like this.

Discord is a messaging platform built from the ground up entirely for game fanatics. The Android app, on the other hand, features a simplified user interface coupled with the very "famous" these days dark mode option. It even comes enabled by default. Dark mode aside, there is now a new update for the app that has been released on the Google Play Store, which adds the support for in-app purchase as well as a number of much-needed bug fixes. The exact build number of the latest release is V8.6.6 and it comes with the following changelog.
Since the dawn of time, man has dreamed of two things: Flight, and the ability to purchase Discord Nitro from a mobile app.
Discord Nitro is now available to purchase from within the mobile apps, and you can manage your billing and payment methods via the app as well.
A few bug fixes as well:
- Downloading some images resulted in downloading an HTML file
- Some malformed URLs would be recognized as links
- Fixes a bug where our users couldn't give us money
By purchasing Discord Nitro's monthly/yearly subscriptions users get perks like unlimited access to great new game suggestions, ability to set custom Discord tags, uploading GIFs and HD videos with higher framerates, plus higher upload limits for your memes. Within the app, you can make purchases and also manage your billing and payment information.
Like we mentioned already, there have been bug fixes done to the app as well, e.g. broken files, malformed URLs and not working donations, so make sure to install this update on your devices to have a bug-free messaging experience on Discord.
