Swift Backup Beta Last 10 Updates

Switching from Google+ Community to Facebook Group and progress on v3.0 update

    Switching to Facebook
I've been silent about the whole G+ is dying thing for a while. This was and still is the best platform for me to get valuable feedback and proper bug reports. Frankly, there's little out there that could replace G+ fully.

For now, Facebook Group is an easy choice, it has all the G+ features ideal for an app support channel, it is highly reachable as most of you, if not all, will already be using it and lastly, it is highly unlikely that it will be killed anytime soon.

There will be two official support channels after 2 April, 2019:
    1. Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/swiftbackup
    2. Email: [email protected]

All future announcements and discussions will take place in the Facebook Group.

Many other platforms were considered as an alternative to Facebook Groups (Keeping in mind the most casual user):
    1. MeWe: Immature design, fairly new platform, might go away like G+
    2. Telegram or other chat apps: No conversation threads, no categorization/topics etc, would need bots and stuff to atleast get started and even then it isn't a proper replacement
    3. Slack: Overwhelming for a casual/new user who just needs to report a small bug! Likely that many casual users haven't even used it.
    4. Reddit: This is a mixed bag. I might consider it in future but I don't find it better or easier than Facebook atm.

I just made a small post in the new Facebook Group about current progress on v3.0 update with some screens: https://www.facebook.com/groups/swiftbackup/permalink/2263214357283456/

PS: You can find me on twitter too but I don't think I'll be tweeting much about Swift Backup releases there. In any case, here's my twitter page:

11 Sep 2018 Google Play Release Update

Swift Backup v2.1.1 is now live on Play Store.
This is a hotfix update released primarily to remove the BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN permission.

Read about the recent app removal by Google here: https://plus.google.com/+DickenChristianMe/posts/eZGjuE3nYAW

    Changelog
    Removed BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN permission
Note: External SDCARD users can now uninstall SB without deactivating the app as Device Admin. The backup files on the ext. sdcard will be removed on uninstalling, so be sure to take a backup of /Android/data/org.swiftapps.swiftbackup/ folder on your ext. sdcard before uninstalling the app in any case.

Android P: Workaround when restoring apps fail due to SE Linux policy patching failure. The policy patch allows SB to directly install backed up app apks from its own folder rather than a system designated folder.
