It looks like OpenAI's Terra line might just be ready to make a comeback. According to a post from Lumina, they noticed GPT-6.1 Terra appear in 18 evaluation configs that were switched from GPT-5.6 Terra to the new name. For context, config changes like that usually happen when a team is preparing to test against a model, not months ahead, so a release may not be far off.

This development also aligns with a new report from [The Information](https://www.theinformation.com/newsletters/ai-agenda/anthropic-readies-model-reads-users-intentions-better?ref=testingcatalog.com) (paywalled). In a post sharing the story, Stephanie Palazzolo said this month should be *"a busy one for new model releases,"* pointing to a new Anthropic model, Google's Gemini 4 Carbon, and *"a potential new Terra model from OpenAI."*

The publication reports that the new Terra is expected to beat GPT-6.1 Sol while costing less, with OpenAI keen to compete with Anthropic on price. If true, that will be interesting, since Sol already sells at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.

That said, Stephanie Palazzolo later followed up with another [post](https://x.com/steph%5Fpalazzolo/status/2112205820440326307?ref=testingcatalog.com) to clarify that some of the new model launches might slip into November. So don't expect all these expected releases to happen within this month.

On other releases, Anthropic is also preparing a model that reportedly does a better job of figuring out what users actually want, even when they don't spell it out. It's still unclear whether that will land under the Fable or Opus name, though it fits neatly with the [Claude Fable 5.5 signals we've been tracking](https://www.testingcatalog.com/anthropic-several-models-coming-fable-5-5-reaches-partners/).

While we wait for new models, OpenAI has also been improving its existing offerings. ChatGPT Slides just gained real-time collaborative editing, letting teams, Dots, and ChatGPT work on the same deck together.

Add the Aurora models that look like [OpenAI is possibly testing GPT-Image-3](https://www.testingcatalog.com/openai-possibly-testing-gpt-image-3/), and the company clearly has plenty going on. Still, a cheaper Terra won't quiet the people waiting for a new Astra-level model. If it really does beat Sol on a smaller budget, though, plenty of developers will take it.
