OpenAI is preparing a new "Knowledge" tab for ChatGPT, based on references found in the application code. This tab is expected to be positioned next to the existing images tab and appears to serve as a built-in knowledge base, primarily for team accounts. The aim is to allow teams to collect and manage information generated during their ChatGPT sessions. It is still unclear whether users will have the ability to manually add entries or if the system will automatically curate and store relevant artifacts, such as files, documents, or summaries, produced during conversations.

The feature has surfaced through new announcement hooks in the code, with mentions of "reasoning effort" and "system prompt," pointing to potential administrative controls. This would allow workspace admins to set guidelines or structure how the knowledge base functions for their organization. For team and enterprise users, having a centralized space for shared knowledge could reduce duplicated effort and make collaboration more straightforward, especially for teams working on technical projects or support documentation.

For now, there's no information about general availability for personal accounts. The layout and context strongly resemble [Claude's Artifacts Gallery feature](https://www.testingcatalog.com/upcoming-claude-feature-lets-users-explore-and-share-ai-generated-artifacts/), which serves as a persistent gallery for generated content. Given OpenAI’s current direction with [ChatGPT](https://www.testingcatalog.com/tag/chatgpt/), especially as it expands collaborative and workflow-oriented features for business accounts, the Knowledge tab could help organizations retain valuable context from previous chats. The timing of the public rollout remains unknown, but preparation for in-app announcements usually signals that testing is underway. As of now, OpenAI has not issued any public statement regarding this feature.
