Microsoft is quietly advancing a new Study and Learn mode for Copilot, introducing a specialized voice experience designed for educational use. In this mode, users are greeted with a distinct Copilot Appearance that shifts from the traditional blue to yellow, signaling the transition to a learning environment.
Notably, the avatar, now known as Mico, adopts a new visual identity, complete with a hat and glasses, underscoring a more approachable, tutor-like persona. Mico appears in the lower left corner beside a virtual board that prompts, “Let’s dive in, what would you like to learn?” This setup is meant for students and learners who prefer guided, interactive sessions where they can engage with Copilot through voice rather than typing.

At present, while Mico can acknowledge requests to show something on the board, the interface does not yet update, suggesting the feature is still in development. The virtual board, which could later support text or even graphical explanations, hints at Microsoft’s direction: blending conversational AI with real-time visual aids to explain concepts. This approach would directly benefit learners who find visual and auditory explanations more accessible, including students of all ages or anyone revisiting academic subjects.

This update follows Microsoft’s broader strategy to infuse Copilot with more human-like assistance, aiming to make it not just a productivity tool but also a digital study partner. The rollout timeline remains uncertain, but the feature will likely pass through limited labs testing before reaching the general user base. If Microsoft manages to enable dynamic content on the virtual board, Copilot could become a strong contender in the educational AI space, offering a more interactive alternative to text-based study tools. Some have already compared Mico to Microsoft’s earlier assistant characters, hinting at a nostalgic yet modernized approach.
