Google Maps slowly turns into a social network for local guides

It turns out that if you swipe up from the explore section you will notice a very familiar content feed. Each post has a profile tile, image, text and a like button with a counter.

It was a while since Google Maps introduced profiles and options to follow them. But now, with a dedicated content feed and likes, it comes very close to an area of social apps. You would normally see food bloggers and travel guides posting their content to Instagram but now Google Maps becomes a very niche social app for such creators.

The time when you would only use Google Maps for navigation is gone. Well, unless Google will decide to kill the Local Guides program at some point.
