Google is rolling out a major update to its Discover feed within the Google app, providing users with access to a wider range of content from publishers and creators. This update allows people to view posts from platforms like X, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts, consolidating diverse formats such as articles, short videos, and social posts in one feed. Users can now follow their preferred creators or publishers directly within Discover and preview their recent content before subscribing, making Discover more tailored to individual interests.

The feature targets users who rely on Google for news aggregation and content discovery, aiming to reduce the need to switch between multiple apps or platforms. The rollout is starting immediately, with broader availability expected in the coming weeks, and is accessible to anyone signed into their Google Account using the Google app.

Technically, this update integrates APIs and partnerships with external social and video platforms, allowing real-time updates from various content sources. Compared to prior iterations, this version expands beyond traditional news articles, responding to user demand for a mix of media formats. Early users have noted the convenience of having content from multiple platforms in a single feed, while some industry experts are watching how Google manages content moderation and platform agreements.

This launch aligns with Google’s ongoing strategy to strengthen user retention within its ecosystem and support publishers and creators by facilitating direct user connections. Google’s previous introductions, like preferred news sources in Top Stories, show a continued focus on personalizing content delivery and keeping audiences engaged within its search and app environments.
