Flipboard introduced a new feature for local news quite recently. Now it shows a popup after opening that app that asks for your location and where you can select cities you are interested in. For now, it only has US and Canadian cities covered by this feature but you already can give it a try even if you leave somewhere else.
If selected, it will add a new tile with local news to your feed where you can also navigate between different tabs per topic.
