Facebook Messenger got a new button for conversation-starting along with an avatar shortcut

The home screen UI of Facebook Messenger was a bit refreshed after its latest update. A "new chat" button got moved from top to bottom which makes it more compliant to Material Design guidelines.

This button opens another screen where you can start a conversation or create a group chat.

Apart from this, you can notice a new Avatar shortcut in settings that opens a separate Avatar editing UI. Avatars were introduced a while ago as an analogy to Bitmoji that you can use as personalised stickers. This feature was initially spotted on iOS. This feature was also available to some users for a while.

How to test:

  • Check a New Chat button on the home screen.
  • Open profile settings.
  • Tap on the Avatar section.
